The icons and colors displayed on a shield allowed those in the heat of battle to recognize more easily who was an ally or an enemy. In the history of the Church the crest or shield had an ecclesiastical role, symbolizing the strength of office, rank, or dignity of the individual or group. It was typically used to signify an allegiance to a certain cause, purpose or function, and united the bearer with a specific \u201cfamily\u201d or group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\">In the spirit of our Catholic heritage and heraldry, we at St. Mary our Lady of the Snows Catholic School have adopted a shield to illustrate the values which we believe our school teaches and upholds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The symbols on the shield are of <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>two hands praying<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> (representing sincerity and faith, specifically the fostering of true spirituality), <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>a closed book<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> (not the Bible; representing counsel and knowledge, specifically the academic mission of our school), and finally <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>the St. Mary symbol of mother and child <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(representing our Church &amp; school community under the patronage of the Blessed Mother). We believe that these three values, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>spirituality<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>knowledge<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>community<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, uniquely describe the mission of St. Mary School and reflect our chosen motto:<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong>&#8220;To shape the mind, body, and spirit of tomorrow&#8217;s leaders.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thus, to highlight the motto after the Roman Catholic tradition, we have included three words in Latin around the border, &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">MENS,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CORPUS<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SPIRITUS,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8221; which mean &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">MIND<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BODY<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">, <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">SPIRIT.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The colors of the shield are the colors of our school. In the heraldic tradition <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>white<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> was the color of peace and sincerity, whereas <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: TrebuchetMS, 'Trebuchet MS';\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><i>blue<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> was the color of truth and loyalty.
